Thinclads get a measure of post-season competition
The Mountain Home Tigers sent mostly junior varsity athletes to a Nampa quadrangular meet last Thursday, and sent several other athletes to the Bandana Invitational at Mountain View on Friday and Saturday.
At Thursday's meet, the Mountain Home girls finished second behind Middleton. The Lady Vikings had 145 points, Mountain Home had 57.5, followed by Columbia with 46.5,and Nampa with 12.
Christina Segovia had Mountain Home's only first place effort, winning the high jump. Jordan Vivier had a second-place effort in the 3200-meter run, and finished third in the 800.
Claudia Bermensolo finished second in the 200, was a member of the 4x800 medley replay team (along with Neica Jones, Ana Ayala and Jasmyne Moore) that finished second, and a member of the 4x100-meter relay (along with Brittany Orie, Cloe Baul and Jasmyne Moore) and 4x200-meter relay (along with Brittany Orie, Cloe Baul and Kacee Cameron) that both finished third.
Kacee Cameron also had a second-place effort in the triple jump, and placed third in the 400 meters.
Tanya McKenzie was second in the shot put, and Regina Rodriguez came in second in the discus.
Jasmyne Moore had third-place finishes in the 100-meter high hurdles and 300-meter hurdles, and Keesha Janis finished third in the shot put.
Cloe Baul had a fifth in the 400 meters, and Neica Jones was fifth in the triple jump.
Middleton also won the boys competition at the Nampa meet, scoring 123 points. Mountain Home was second with 55.5, Columbia was third with 53, and Nampa had 39.5 points.
Jacob Viola won the 100 meters and was second in the 200 meters. Dylan Johnson won the 3,200-meter run and tied for third in the pole vault.
Jacob Allies was second in the high jump and finished fifth in the 400 meters. Joe Gutierrez was second in the 3,200-meter run.
Tyler Knauth had third place finishes in the 400 meters and long jump. Robert Jacio was third in the 100 meter dash, Jesus Juarez finished third in the 3,200, and the Mountain Home 4x200-meter relay team made up of Nick Stover, Eli Holland, Clive Lindsay and Luke Filipovich finished third.
Kyle Kerfoot placed fourth in the 100, Tommy Miller was fourth in the 200, Colby Hall was fourth in the 3,200, and Luke Filipovich was fourth in the triple jump.
Fifth-place efforts went to Juan Silva in the 100, Layne Campos in the 200, Ben West in the high jump, James Simon in the triple jump, and Junior Ruiz in the discus.
"We sent predominately our JV team to the Nampa meet, and Middleton had both their varsity and JV there because they didn't go to the Bandana, so they pretty well cleaned house there, but I was pleased with our efforts at the Nampa meet," said Tiger track coach Rich Urquidi.
Mountain Home sent a number of athletes to the Bandana Invitational at Mountain View High School on Friday and Saturday.
The field was competitive, with 20 teams, over half of them 5A schools. Mountain Home finished 10th in the girls competition and 14th in the boys.
Centennial won the girls competition with 81.5 points. Mountain Home finished with 41.14 points.
Jasmyn Jewett finished second in the triple jump, was seventh in the long jump, tied for eighth in the high jump, and was a member of the 4x100-meter relay (along with Anastasia Sansone, Jessica Liercke and Jessica Tindall) that finished third. Kristie Sigloh came in second in the 200 meters, and was a member of the 4x200-meter relay (along with Jessica Tindall, Lauren Moore and Jessica Liercke) that finished second, and the 4x400-meter relay (along with Shelby Hemrick, Lauren Moore and Haley Schaefer) that finished fifth. Jessica Liercke also had a third in the triple jump.
Eagle won the boys competition at the Bandana Invitational with 76.33 points. Mountain Home ended up 14th, with 17 points.
Tyree Harmon had a second-place finish in the 110 meter high hurdles, Billy Derome was sixth in the discus and seventh in the shot put, and Garrett Wood was sixth in the pole vault and eighth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Coach Urquidi thought his teams did well at the Bandana meet, that had a lot of 5A schools there.
"We had a some good efforts there. Our girls 4x200 relay got beat by Twin Falls, but it was our girls' best time of the season, so we're pleased with that. We're happy with the efforts we had there."
The Tigers will host Mountain View, Nampa and Timberline at a quadrangular meet at Tiger Field Thursday. Action gets under way at 4 p.m.
