Senior celebration will be held outside county
Mountain Home High School Class of 2009 seniors will be holding their year-end Senior Celebration at a different venue than in the past and with somewhat different activities this year.
Senior Celebration chairperson, JoAnn Henrick said that during a recent celebration committee meeting, a student asked why the seniors had to do the same things every year and said that many students had told her they would like to do something different.
When a parent attending the meeting concurred, the committee had a brainstorming session and considered the possibility of having the event at Wahooz Family Fun Zone in Meridian (formerly Boondocks).
Henrick said that, while the volunteer parents group that organizes the celebration had been prepared to proceed with the traditional event, the committee felt they should let the students decide what they wanted to do and asked high school principal Jeff Johnson to survey the seniors.
Johnson said that in response to the committee's request, he held a 20-minute assembly of seniors and explained both options, including the fact that students would need to be bussed to Wahooz and asked the seniors to vote for the event they wanted.
He said there were 109 votes for Wahooz and 79 votes for the traditional program.
