Golf board explains why, and how, fees for local tournaments are set
Dear editor:
The Mountain Home Golf Advisory Board is truly disappointed that the Idaho Couples Golf Association (ICGA) no longer schedules tournaments at Desert Canyon Golf Course (DCGC).
The board takes great care in recommending annual fees to the city council. Though we are aware that some courses may significantly reduce tournament fees for the ICGA, the Golf Advisory Board considers the costs of course maintenance, the current economy, and most importantly, the golfers and the public when recommending fees to the city council.
In turn, the city council takes the same care when setting the final fees.
DCGC currently hosts approximately 20 outside tournaments a year, many of which are charity events. They, too, would like reduced fees so that more money could go to the respective charities. Many of these charities, tournament hosts, and players contribute to DCGC and the Mountain Home community throughout the entire year.
The city council determined that discounting tournament fees by the number of teams or individuals participating in the tournament, and not by who is hosting the tournament, was the best way to be fair to all.
The Golf Advisory Board welcomes any input the ICGA may have on the golf course and setting fees for next year.
