Kindergarten fair, registration set

A Kindergarten Readiness Fair and school registration for all incoming kindergarten students in the Mountain Home School District will be held Tuesday, April 21, at each child's elementary school.

Children entering kindergarten must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2009.

Parents and their child can come any time from 5-7 p.m. A certified birth certificate (original) or a passport and the child's shot record must be brought at that time.

As part of the registration and readiness fair, parents will learn what kindergarteners need to know for school, including being able to:

* identify capital letters (random order).

* Count to ten.

* Write first name (block letters).

* Sing the alphabet.

* Identify the eight basic colors (the ones found in a crayon 8-pack)and four standard shapes.

* Understand syllables.

* Detect rhymes.

* Zip zippers and tie shoes.
