Easter rush
Bright skies and relatively warm weather helped draw an estimated 300 children to Carl Miller Park Sunday for the annual community Easter egg hunt sponsored by Masonic Sabre Lodge #7 (PHA).
Promptly at 2 p.m. the children, many dressed in Sunday Easter outfits, were released into the park to find the more than 1,500 eggs hidden there, while toddlers searched the playground at Eastside Elementary and several special needs children looked for eggs hidden in a special area of the cookshack picnic tables that had been set aside for them.
In less than 90 seconds every egg had found its way into someone's Easter basket or bag. Any children who weren't fast enough were given eggs by members of the lodge. "No child goes home empty-handed if we can help it," said one of the organizers, James Rentie.
