WECRD seeks partnership with YMCA
The Western Elmore County Recreation District is shifting gears to focus its efforts on developing a possible partnership with the Treasure Valley YMCA.
The district had shown a brief period of interest in developing such a partnership in the early years of its existence, but that effort did not pan out at the time.
More recently, its focus has been on developing a community center of its own. Following last fall's elections, during which WECRD Director Mollie Marsh had indicated the district was less than a year away from being able to begin construction of the center, the district had put together a citizen's committee to help it come up with a final design for the community center.
Neither Marsh nor new director Jana Borgholthaus responded to requests for interviews by the Mountain Home News regarding the efforts to obtain a partnership with the YMCA.
But according to a statement by Borgholthause on the WECRD website: "The WECRD has made progress over the past years, although at first glance it may look like we are 'starting over,' it is really just a step back to regroup and take another look at the bigger picture.
"Thursday, March 18, marked a pivotal day for the WECRD as we took the first step in moving forward with the YMCA," she wrote.
