Bunco for Breast Cancer fundraiser is this Saturday

Saturday, February 28, 2009

The 6th Annual Bunco for Breast Cancer fundraiser will take place on Saturday, Feb. 28, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Mountain Home American Legion Hall.

The 128 seats sold out in less than a week.

"The Mountain Home Bunco group has raised nearly $16,000 for St. Luke's Health Foundation since 2004," said Vicky Prouty, founder of the Bunco Benefit for Breast Cancer in Mountain Home. "The biggest need in Idaho has been for screenings and early detection. Nothing beats bringing women together. It's a sisterhood, a joyful time."

Prouty credits the huge success of the event to the support of her regular Bunco group, which plays each month, and to friends and families, local businesses and sponsors.

There will be door prize giveaways, as well as prizes for the most buncos, most wins and most losses. Appetizers and a no-host bar also will be available

"One in eight women in the U.S. will be diagnosed with breast cancer, but local players of a game called Bunco are doing their part to better those odds," Prouted noted. " Ladies from all over the Treasure Valley will be throwing down for a fun evening dedicated to friendship, dice rolling, prizes, and for a greater cause -- women battling breast cancer."

All proceeds will benefit the St. Luke's Health Foundation Breast Care Services program.

Anyone who would like to make a donation in memory or in celebration of someone dear to them should make checks payable to St. Luke's Health Foundation, and mail them to: Bunco for Breast Cancer, PO Box 505, Mountain Home, ID 83647. For more information, visit www.geocities.com/mhbunco, or call Vicky Prouty at 407-8899.

  • This is a subject that I had never really given much thought to. That is until recently. My older sister was diagnosed with Breat Cancer at the first of the year. She is currently undergoing chemo therapy and when that is completed will continue with other medical treatments. Her's, we're told, was caught early, so we are extremely hopeful for a full recovery.

My hope is that this event, as well as all the other activities across the world to increase awareness of this disease and monies for medical research, will be overwhelming successes.

    Best wishes,

  • Just curious... Why not get a bigger place so more people can play and also make more money for the Breast Cancer Foundation?
