Here's a look at statistics about hunger and food banks based on a nationwide survey of 180 food banks last December:
- 100 percent reported an increase in people served from a year earlier.
- Demand for emergency food increased by 30 percent from previous year.
- 72 percent said they were unable to adequately meet demands of hungry people without having to reduce the amount of food they gave our or their operations.
- 55 percent said they had reduced, or were considering reducing, the amount of food given to clients.
