Women's History banquet tickets on sale.
The Women's History Banquet will be held Saturday, March 7, at the American Legion Hall, 515 E. 2nd North St. beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Tickets are $20 and are available at the Mountain Home Historical Museum, 180 S. 3rd East St. Reservations also can be made by calling the museum at 587-6847.
March is National Women's History month and the Mountain Home Historical Society will be honoring three local women, "Stewards of the Land," who have worked to improve and conserve the area's soil and water, who have shared their knowledge with children, and who have tended the land for future generations.
Local historical and current projects will be presented by the Elmore Soil and Water Conservation District, which was established in 1940.
The keynote speaker will be Dr. Lisa Brady, an environmental professor at Boise State University. As an American environmental historian, Dr. Brady studies the relationships between humans and nature and how their interactions have evolved over time. Her presentation is funded by the Idaho Humanities Council, a nonprofit organization that serves as the state-based affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities.
"We are focusing on women's careers within local, state and federal conservation fields," said museum director Nancy Marshall. "We encourage our guests to bring their daughters and granddaughters to explore these career options."
The "color" for the evening is green, she said, urging those attending to "wear a splash of green and join us as we honor the Elmore County women who are "Stewards of the Land."
