Arts Council solicits entries for new local literary journal.

Saturday, February 14, 2009

The Mountain Home Arts Council's Literary Committee is looking for writers to contribute items to its first literary journal, The Whistle Pig.

The editors of The Whistle Pig are seeking original short stories, poems, memoirs, personal musings, drama and other short pieces of writing to include in the journal.

"We know there are a number of very good writers out there" said Sally Cruser, executive director of the Mountain Home Arts Council. "We would like to give them an opportunity to publish their work, and the rest of our community an opportunity to read what their neighbors and friends are writing."

The editors have established the following guidelines for submissions:

Prose: no more than 8000 words.

Poetry: no more than 50 lines.

Font size: 12 pt., Times New Roman.

Prose is to be double spaced; poetry can have whatever spacing required by the work.

Include an upper right hand header on each page with name, title of work, and page number.

Also include a coversheet with a brief biography (not to exceed 50 words), name, address, contact number, and an e-mail address.

Entries should be postmarked no later than March 2.

Mail entries to the Mountain Home Arts Council, Attn: Literary Committee, PO Box 974, Mountain Home, ID 83647, or e-mail them at mh-arts@qwestoffice.net with the subject: Whistle Pig Submission.

The Editorial Committee reserves the right to refuse any work and to ask for editorial changes. Address questions to the Arts Council at 587-3706. Submissions will not be returned unless accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

If a submission is printed the payment will be one copy of The Whistle Pig.
