Where to cut education?
Dear editor:
The Jan. 28 issue had a letter from Rebecca Lampman concerning our education budget cut.
I concur with her 100 percent but I would like to point out a few facts.
Ms. Lampman only pointed out what was wrong and what was not acceptable. In her entire letter I don't see any solutions offered. Maybe she could rethink the process and come up with some ideas where we could save more money somewhere and put it into education.
For example, I think we should cut at the top. Administration always seems to use more money than necessary. This is just a thought, maybe I'm wrong on this. I'm sure most districts are feeling this same pinch and are all rethinking where there money goes. I'm sure school district 193 is doing the same thing.
I agree with Ms. Lampman on contacting your legislators and asking them to come up with some new ideas. "Education is the Key to success." I sure don't want Idaho to fall too far behind.
I think transportation is a prime area to cut spending. If parents want their children to have an education it behooves them to get them there. I don't think it is the school's responsibility to get my child there.
I also think our schools are teaching social engineering courses that really should be taught at home.
Breakfast programs are another area where a lot of money could be saved. I know it is a nice thing to have, but maybe parents could take on the responsibility of feeding their own children.
These are only a few ideas to save some money.
I also think we put a lot of money in sports. I must admit I am a big believer in sports, but I think we should also balance sports with academics. Maybe we are a little overboard on sports.
Maybe Ms. Lampman could also contribute some ideas.
