Columbia 35
Mountain Home outscored Columbia 42-13 through the middle two quarters to pull away for a 64-35 conference win over the Lady Wildcats last Thursday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.
Mountain Home shot out to a 12-4 lead in the first quarter but Columbia hung close, trailing the Lady Tigers 18-12 after a quarter.
The Lady Tigers went on a 10-2 run to start the second quarter and ended it on a 12-4 run to go up 40-18 at the half.
Mountain Home had a 9-0 run to start the third quarter, and ended it on a 9-2 run to increase their lead to 60-27 after three.
With the clock running continuously in the fourth, the Lady Tigers ended up on top, 64-35.
"I thought, offensively, that first half, production-wise, that was our best half," said Mountain Home Lady Tiger head basketball coach Brent Keener after the game.
"To score 40 points in a half is great. Defensively, that first quarter we just had to do a better job with (Kara) Carter -- she goes to the hole, she puts her head down and she goes to the line if we don't step in and take a charge. We started to figure that out a little in the second half, but not as well as I would have liked."
Three Lady Tigers scored in double figures in the game. Francesca Hale led the way with 18 points. Rachel Warila added 12 and Shelby Posey 11, both season-highs for them. Blas Lord scored eight points and Jasmyn Jewett seven, both also season highs. Dakota Barrie netted six,and Charde Huntington two to round out the scoring.
The win improved the Lady Tigers to 4-7 overall and 3-3 in conference play.
They are off during the Christmas break, returning to action Jan. 6 at Wood River. They get back to conference action on Jan. 8 at Emmett, and play at home against Middleton for a 2 p.m. game on Jan. 10.
