The Mountain Home Tigers' fourth quarter fell a bit short as they lost to the Mountain View Mavericks 55-5, last Wednesday night in their season opening boys basketball game in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium in Mountain Home.
An 8-0 run by Mountain View midway through the first quarter put the Mavericks up 13-6, but Mountain Home battled back to within one, 13-12, at the quarter's end.
A 9-0 run to start the second quarter pushed the Mavericks' lead to 22-12 before a 10-2 run by the Tigers made it a two-point deficit, 24-22. The Tigers trailed 31-25 at the half.
Mountain View controlled the third quarter and stretched their lead to 47-33 heading into the final quarter.
A 15-3 rally by Mountain Home in the fourth brought the Tigers back within two, 50-48, with 1:36 left.
Mountain View made just three of seven free throws down the stretch, but it was enough, as the Tigers could not get any closer, losing to the Mavericks 55-51.
Despite the loss, Tiger head basketball coach Tony Kerfoot saw a number of positives from his team in their first game of the season.
"I thought we kept scrapping and we made a little run at the end. I thought we came up a couple possessions short. Our ball movement offensively, at times was very good, and then it kind of broke down, and our execution broke down. We just need to maintain that through a full game and I think we'll be okay."
Alex Campbell led the Tigers in scoring with 18 points, and Chris Maholick also scored in double figures, scoring 10 points. Danny Snelgrow added eight points, Trevor Woodruff scored five, Logan Monasterio four, and David Bitrick and D.J. Elliott both scored three.
The Tigers were without Kyle Kerfoot, who missed school that day with the flu.

The Tigers came up against a tough Timberline squad last Friday night at Timberline and lost to the Wolves 83-47.
Timberline shot out to a 5-0 lead, but the Tigers came right back getting a three from Danny Snelgrow and a basket from Trevor Woodruff to tie the game at 5-5 with 6:20 left in the first quarter. A 12-0 run by the Wolves gave them a lead they would not relinquish. Timberline led 26-16 after a quarter and were up 44-29 at the half. It was 62-40 after three.
"They're loaded, and I knew they were, and they're probably more athletic than I thought they were," said Coach Kerfoot after the game.
"I'm not real unhappy with our play. I thought we showed some good signs in this game. Obviously, we don't have as many that are as strong and big and as fast as they are with the basketball skills they have, but we're not bad either."
D.J. Elliott led the Tigers in scoring with 12 points, Kyle Kerfoot was next with 10 and Trevor Woodruff added nine. Chris Maholick scored five, Alex Campbell and Deion Brown both had four, and Danny Snelgrow chipped in three.
The Tigers have just one game this week, last (Tuesday) night at Jerome. They host Jerome on Dec. 16, and close out their pre-holiday schedule at Middleton on Dec. 19.
