Lady Tigers break into win column, beat Wood River
The Mountain Home Lady Tigers broke into the win column Saturday afternoon with a home win over Wood River.
They dropped close games to Jerome and Timberline earlier in the week.
Jerome 39
Mtn. Home 28
The Mountain Home Lady Tigers played Jerome tough, but lost to the visiting Lady Tigers 39-28 last Tuesday night in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.
Mountain Home battled Jerome close but were outscored in every quarter. They trailed 11-8 after a quarter, and were down 19-14 at halftime. It was 28-20, Jerome, after three, and ended up 39-28 in favor of the visiting Lady Tigers.
"We played them tough," said Mountain Home Lady Tiger basketball coach Brent Keener. "We knew we had to stop Aubree Callen. I thought we did a decent job on her -- she still had 16 points. They 2-3'ed (zone) us quite a bit and we just couldn't make a shot, and we were right there until the last couple minutes."
Francesca Hale led Mountain Home against Jerome with 11 points, Shelby Posey had six, Rachel Warila, four, Angie Rios, three, Charde Huntington and Dakota Barrie both scored two.
Timberline 40
Lady Tigers 27
Timberline pulled away in the second half to down Mountain Home, 40-27 last Thursday night at Timberline.
Mountain Home trailed by a point, 9-8, after one quarter, and went into the locker room at halftime tied 13-13.
Timberline pulled away in the second half, outscoring the Lady Tigers 27-14 for the win. It was 28-19, Timberline, after three, and ended up 40-27.
"It was really disappointing," said Coach Keener of the Timberline loss. "I thought we were the better team, obviously the scoreboard didn't show it, but I bet we missed 15 lay-ins in the first half -- without any contact -- just wide open lay-ins. We got penetration to the block, hit the post and just couldn't put it away, so that one kind of stung."
Blas Lord and Francesca Hale led Mountain Home in scoring with five points apiece. Angie Rios and Charde Huntington both added four, Rachel Warila scored three, Jasmyn Jewett, Dakota Barrie and Shelby Posey each added two points.
Posey led the Lady Tigers in rebounds with six.
Mtn. Home 43
Wood River 20
The Lady Tigers shot out to a 23-point halftime advantage in downing Wood River 43-20 Saturday afternoon in Lloyd Schiller Gymnasium.
Mountain Home jumped out to a 19-6 first quarter lead and outscored the Lady Wolverines 12-2 in the second period to go into the locker room up 31-8 at halftime, forcing 18 first-half Wood River turnovers.
It was 39-14 after three and ended up 43-20.
"That first half, I thought, was our best half," said Coach Keener after the Wood River win. "I thought the second half, we just kind of coasted, instead of really just burying them."
Francesca Hale led the scoring with 13 points. Dakota Barrie added nine, Shelby Posey put in eight, Angie Rios, six, Charde Huntington, three, and Blas Lord and Jasmyn Jewett both added two points.
The win improved Mountain Home to 1-3 on the season. They have this week off for the Thanksgiving holiday, returning to action next week hosting Bishop Kelly on Tuesday, traveling to Middleton on Thursday, and to Jerome on Saturday.
"Those are three of the better teams, and BK's been playing really well," said Coach Keener. "I know we can play with them (BK). We saw them this summer and we lost a game we should have won. If we practice hard, I think we'll be okay."
