Girls x-country takes sixth at state
The Mountain Home Tiger girls cross country team came in sixth at the State 4A Girls Cross Country meet at Eagle Island State Park last Saturday.
Alycia Crandall led the Lady Tigers. Her time of 19:58.1, a new personal record, placed her 19th in the race. Haley Schaefer ran a 20:31.9, which placed her 25th, two places ahead of teammate Jordan Vivier, who ran a new PR with her 20:37.5. Kacee Cameron ran a new PR with her 22:00.2, which placed her 52nd.
Ashley Mayberry ran a 23:43.2, good for 74th, right ahead of Jessi Cameron, who ran a 23:50. McKenzie Dorr came in 78th with a new PR of 23:51.6.
Preston won the 4A Girls State title with 52 points, edging Kuna by three. Bishop Kelly was third with 61, Hillcrest had 128, Jerome, 171, three points better than Mountain Home. Sandpoint was seventh, with 189, followed by Moscow, 204, Wood River, 218, Emmett, 221, Pocatello, 223, and Rigby, 345.
"The girls ran very well," said Tiger cross country coach Doug Root. "We were three points out of fifth place. Alycia Crandall got 19th place and got a medal for her effort. All the girls ran very, very well."
Coach Root expects bigger and better things from his girls next year, as he does not lose that many girls to graduation.
"Most of them will be coming back next year, and we've got some good talent coming up and we should be very competitive again next year."
Coach Root also expects good things from his boys squad next year.
"We improved a lot this year, and basically all we're losing is Garrett (Wood) off the boys team, so we should make some gains over the summer, and do very well."
