JV football team loses in overtime
The Mountain Home Tigers watched a 21-0 halftime lead disappear in the second half Thursday night at Skyview as the Hawks' JV came back to tie the game, force overtime and then defeat the Tiger JV 27-21.
The Tigers took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter on a five-yard run by Curtis Jackson. Anthony Castillo's PAT made it 7-0.
Mountain Home added two more touchdowns in the second quarter, one by Colton Zamora on a seven-yard run, the other on a pass interception return by Drew Hopkins, as the Tigers built up a 21-0 lead at the half.
Tiger quarterback Anthony Castillo, who had been playing in place of Brock Morris, who is out indefinitely with an injury, injured his ankle in the second quarter and did not play in the second half. Colton Zamora took over at the quarterback spot but the Tigers were unable to score in the second half.
Skyview put up 14 points in the third quarter and added seven more in the fourth to tie the game at 21-21 and force overtime.
Mountain Home failed to score in overtime, but the Hawks scored to win 27-21.
"We played an excellent first half, and then just before the halftime, Anthony Castillo went down with an ankle injury and wasn't able to come back," said Tiger JV head coach Lynn Knudson.
"We had to make some adjustments, which made us weak in some other areas, so we had a little tough time in the second half."
The Tigers ended the night with 118 yards rushing, led by Curtis Jackson with 77 yards on 21 carries. Colton Zamora had 22 yards rushing, Enrique Varela, 10, Julio Cantu, six, and Anthony Castillo, three.
Anthony Castillo competed four of 10 passes for 76 yards. Colton Zamora was 0-6 passing with two interceptions.
Jordan Warila caught one pass for 27 yards, Enrique Varela had one for 24, Drew Hopkins caught one for 13 and Curtis Jackson had a 12-yard reception.
Jordan Warila led the Tiger defense with eight tackles. Drew Hopkins and Ty McRae both had six. Hopkins had a pass deflection and an interception return for a touchdown.
Curtis Jackson had five tackles and Colton Zamora four.
The Tigers drop to 4-3 on the season, and host Emmett tomorrow (Thursday) night at 7 p.m. at Tiger Field.
"Hopefully we'll get things taken care of," said Coach Knudson. "I think Anthony's going to be back for us, and our other quarterback starter, Brock Morris, it doesn't look like he will make it back at least for this next game, but Anthony looks pretty promising and hopefully we can get our offense up and going again, and hopefully good things will happen for us."
