Students pinwheel for peace
Students from Mountain Home High School gathered Monday to pilot the Pinwheels For Peace program in celebration of International Peace Day, which took place on Sunday.
Members of Artopia, the National Honors Society and several other students planted approximately 600 pinwheels in front of the school's annex.
The pinwheels were not only decorated by students from the high school, but by students from North Elementary School as well.
Throughout the annex pinwheels were laid out with poems and songs of peace on the front and various peace images on the back.
"We hope that today will spread the feeling of peace, not just throughout the school, but throughout the community," said art teacher Brenda Raub.
The Pinwheels For Peace program is an art project that began in 2005 by two art teachers, Ann Ayers and Ellen McMillan, who teach at Monarch High School in Coconut Creek, Fla., as a way for students to express their feelings about what's going on in the world and in their daily lives.
