JV boys team ends season at district
The Mountain Home Tiger JV baseball team saw their season come to a close in the first round of the District III 4A JV Baseball Tournament, losing to Skyview, 7-6.
Mountain Home had taken a 2-0 lead in the second inning, which lasted until Skyview took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth. The Tigers plated three in the bottom of the fourth to go up, 5-3. Skyview tied it in the top of the sixth, but Mountain Home pushed across a run in the bottom of the inning to lead, 6-5.
The Hawks then scored twice in the top of the seventh and held the Tigers scoreless in the bottom of the inning to pull off the 7-6 upset.
"Sometimes that three-six game's a little dangerous there and there's not necessarily a lot of difference in record, but I thought the guys played real well," said Tiger JV baseball coach Matt Bundy. "Just a couple of breaks here and there and we could have won that."
Anthony Castillo had two hits and two RBIs, and David Bitrick also had two hits. Kevin Anderson had a hit and RBI, Shawn Lewis and Trevor Woodruff had hits, and Chris Maholick had two RBIs.
The Tiger J.V. squad finished the season with an 11-8 overall record.
"We did real well," said Coach Bundy. "We had a couple games that slipped away, but we were 9-5 in conference and took third place in conference, and we did a lot of good things.
"We developed some new pitchers this year. Tom Hennessey came along and did a lot of good pitching for us, and Jon McCabe did a nice job, so graduating out eight seniors off the varsity, I think we've prepared some kids to go up and play varsity next year."
