Representatives from every MHHS sports team make state
A representative of virtually every spring varsity sports team at Mountain Home High School -- either the entire team or individuals from the teams -- are heading to state competition over the next ten days.
The administration at Mountain Home High School likes to send a member of its staff to attend state meets where it has students participating.
Athletic director John Clark said he's having a hard time finding an administrator to attend state meets this spring because of the number of athletes that have qualified so far.
"It's a good problem to have," Clark said.
Travis Goldsby was the lone member of the golf team to qualify for the state meet. The state golf tournament was held Monday and Tuesday at Jerome.
The girls softball team won the 4A District III title and will face Wood River Thursday to open state play.
The boys baseball team plays Minico Thursday in the first round of its state tournament after finishing third at district.
Two boys doubles tennis teams qualified for state at districts. Jordan Nicsich and Joey Miller placed fourth and Keth Galloway and Bryan Walsh finished sixth to advance to the state tournament held at the Boise Racket Club. Tournament play begins Friday.
Members of the track team will look to add on to the number of Mountain Home students involved in state action Thursday and Friday at the district track meet. The meet is at Tiger Field beginning at 3:30 p.m. each day and coach Richard Urquidi expects to qualify a number of athletes, including at least one girl each in 16 of the meet's 18 events.
Clark said he can not remember the last time the school sent so many student-athletes to state meets at one time.
"The kids this year have done a good job (and) the coaches have done a good job getting the kids where they need to be to successful," Clark said. "I can't remember the last time we had this many kids all going to the state meets at once."
