Two Mountain Home men receive ISP award for motorist rescue

Two Mountain Home men, Culvin May and Daniel Gallentine, were given special recognition Friday and presented with a Certificate of Appreciation for their role in rescuing a Bellevue, Idaho man trapped beneath his rolled vehicle.
Witnesses reported 26-year-old David S. Mercer of Bellevue was driving at a high rate of speed and had been passing vehicles on the right in the emergency lane when he lost control of his 1994 Jeep and rolled the vehicle in the median shortly after 11:00 a.m. on December 1, 2007 on the westbound side of Interstate 84 about 9 miles east of Boise. Mercer was ejected from and pinned beneath the overturned Jeep.
May and Gallentine came upon the crash and quickly devised a plan to pull the overturned vehicle off of Mercer using a tow strap. They continued to administer aid to Mercer until emergency responders arrived.
"This is an excellent example of how average citizens can make a real difference when they choose to care and become involved," said ISP Region 3 Patrol Commander, Captain Steve Richardson. "We are pleased to recognize these men for their actions and model to others."
