Tigers beat Wildcats for second win in a row
The Mountain Home Tigers won their second straight basketball game Friday night, downing the Filer Wildcats 60-42 in non-conference boys basketball.
The Tigers used fast starts in each of the first three quarters to put the game out of reach. After a 5-0 start in the first quarter, the Tigers went on to a 19-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
A 13-2 run in the second period, pushed the lead out to 32-13 for Mountain Home, and the Tigers went into the locker room up, 32-17 at the half.
Mountain Home started the third quarter with a 7-0 run and built up a 47-24 lead, heading into the final quarter, and cruised on to a 60-42 win.
"It's fun to get one like that!" said Tiger coach Tony Kerfoot in radio comments after the ball game. "We had a lot of opportunity to play a lot of guys that haven't got in a lot of playing time, and hopefully, they're going to develop that. I've got to give credit to the starting group because I thought they came out and took care of business and executed and built up a lead that allowed us to play everybody, and that worked out the way I wanted it to. I thought we looked pretty sharp -- it didn't look like we'd had a six-day layoff without picking up a basketball."
Everyone played and contributed, and all 10 players scored in the game, led by Nick O'Briant's 11 points. Robert Moss scored 10 points. Kyle Kerfoot and Jake Posey both added eight points, Nick Barrie, seven, Tim Beard had a new season-high six points, Ryan Carlen scored four, and Kyle Hall, Stephen Bitrick and Brandon Doble each netted two points in the win.
Mountain Home had one of their better nights shooting the three, hitting four of 12 for 33 percent. They shot 45 percent (20/44) inside the circle, and hit eight of 15 free throws for 53 percent.
Filer had a frigid night shooting, making just one of 14 (7 percent) treys, 14 of 46 (30 percent) twos. They shot 58 per cent (11/19) from the foul line.
Filer had a slight 35-34 edge in rebounds. Brandon Doble led the Tigers with nine rebounds.
The win improved the Tigers to 2-6 on the season. They are 1-2 in SIC 4A conference play, and return to conference action Friday night at home against the Bishop Kelly Knights.
"That'll be a tough one for us," said Coach Kerfoot of Bishop Kelly. "I think there's three top teams in the league -- Skyview, Bishop Kelly and Nampa -- I think everybody else is kind of about the same, and it's going to be on any given night. We'll see. I know we can do a lot better than we did against Skyview, and I would say BK is probably in the same caliber as Skyview, and they're a good ball club. We're going to have to step up a little more to play."
The Tigers host Bishop Kelly Friday night, and see Filer again next Tuesday (Jan. 9) at home.
