Furst finishes 9th at state
Mountain Home runner Jessica Furst capped off a successful freshman year of cross country, finishing ninth at the State 4A girls cross country meet at Hells Gate State Park in Lewiston Saturday.
Furst ran a 20:45, and Tiger cross country coach Doug Root was pleased with her effort.
"She was the number one freshman running in our division, and she ended up beating three of the people at state who had beaten her at the district meet, so she ran an outstanding race and had a very, very productive weekend."
With as young as the Mountain Home high school cross country squad is, Coach Root said the future looks bright.
"It does. We're losing a couple because they're moving during the course of the year, but we've got another young group from the eighth-grade class, so the future definitely looks bright for Mountain Home cross country.
"There are some open meets coming up. Nov. 11 is a qualifier for nationals, which is held at Spokane, and we've got some age group runners that, if they go over there and compete, should do very, very well."
