Tennis team ready for season
The Mountain Home Tiger tennis teams open their 2006 season this week.
They played at Nampa on Monday, and travel to Kuna on Thursday.
Tamzi House takes over the Mountain Home High School tennis program this year, and has been pleased with the turnout.
"The turnout has been very, very good. We started with some voluntary type stuff in January and I had about 45 kids show up for that, and at the beginning of the season, we had about 32."
Of those 32 House has out, 11 are boys, the rest are girls.
"They seem very enthusiastic, and it's going very well," said Coach House. "We're teaching them technique, we're teaching them consistency, placement, playing a tennis game of strategy, and they'll feel good about themselves, because tennis is a lifetime sport -- it's something they can do when they are 85 or 90 years old.
The Tigers will play their first home match next Monday against Caldwell. Varsity matches are played at the courts on Mountain Home Air Force base, with the JV matches played at Richard Aquirre Park in town, starting at 4 p.m.
