Tigers kick off season against Spartans
The Mountain Home Tigers open their 2005 football season at home Friday night against the Minico Spartans.
Second year head coach Brian Floyd leads a Tiger squad that will be trying to improve upon last year's 5-4 record.
Last Saturday afternoon saw the Tigers putting on a game-type scrimmage, with the White jerseys beating the Orange team 24-14. The Orange squad had led 14-6 at halftime.
After the scrimmage, Floyd said that "we had a lot of mental mistakes, all around. It was kind of difficult because we put our JV and varsity together and split them into two different teams, and had two days --actually about 40 minutes really -- and we just walked through plays with them, so familiarity wasn't there, and you saw that in the first quarter.
"The white team really started to get it going in the second half, which is good to see."
Coach Floyd is looking forward to Friday night's opener against the Minico Spartans.
"They have their quarterback coming back, and they've got a running back coming back. They should be pretty good, so it should be a pretty good game."
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Friday night at Tiger Field.
