Team wins tournament division
The 9- and 10-year-old team put forth a total team effort this weekend during the Mountain Home Invitational baseball tournament, compiling a perfect 5-0 record enroute to the championship.
The tournament drew 37 teams from throughout the region to Mountain Home.
The team led off tournament play with a 19-3 victory over Kuna and followed up with a 10-0 win over Nampa Blue.
On Saturday they posted a 14-3 win over Wood River.
They ended Saturday with the number one seed and a spot in the semi-finals. In the semi-finals they met Middleton, then 4-0.
After a flurry of hits and strong defense they moved on to the championship with a 17-1 win.
As expected they faced a tough Emmett team in the finals, for the first time all weekend they found themselves behind 3-0 going into the bottom of the second.
At that point the team woke up their sticks ending the third inning tied 3-3.
The team never trailed again. They mounted a four-run rally in the fourth inning and a three-run rally in the bottom of the fifth.
Emmett tried to mount a comeback in the top of the sixth, scoring three, however, once again the defense and pitching shut the door sealing a 10-6 victory.
The team received excellent pitching from Alex Rodriguez, Adrian Martinez, Jake Hennessey, and Taylor Hamilton. Collectively, in five games they allowed 13 runs.
Offensively the team posted huge numbers with a team batting average of .612 and scored 70 runs.
They are heading into the Caldwell tournament this weekend with an overall 6-3 record.
It turned out to be a good weekend for all four Mountain Home teams, as they all placed in their divisions.
The Mountain Home 13-Prep team made it to the championship game before losing to Jerome's Northside all-stars.
The Mountain Home 14- to 15-year-old team came in third behind Jerome and Emmett, and the Mountain Home 11- tp 12-year-olds finished fourth.
