Bernaiche, Barrie score gold at Tigers' home track meet
Tiger junior Cory Bernaiche made up for lost time Friday at Mountain Home's only home track and field meet of the season.
Bernaiche, due to other commitments, was late turning out for track, and Friday's home meet was his first meet of the season.
He gave a hint of things to come, capturing Mountain Home's only first-place efforts of the day, winning the long jump and both the high (110-meter) and intermediate (300-meter) hurdles.
For the day, the Tiger boys finished third, with 51 points. Bishop Kelly won the meet with 99 points, Emmett was second with 73, and Kuna came in fourth with 49.
Marcus Santistevan had a good day for Mountain Home.
The Tiger senior finished second in the triple jump, and was a member of the four by 100-meter relay team that finished second, was on the four by 200-meter relay team that finished third, and placed fourth in the long jump.
Anthony Pomerlee was a member of four by 100- and 200-meter relays, and finished fourth in the 200-meter dash, and fifth in the 100.
Billy O'Brien was also a member of the four by 100- and 200-meter relays. The Tiger senior also finished third in the 100-meter dash.
Trevor Werner finished third in the 400-meter dash, and joined Kerry Martin, Sid Banks and Lawrence Johnson on the medley replay team that finished third.
Trever Lawson finished fourth in the 400-meter dash, and was fifth in the triple jump.
Michael Thornsberry was the other member of the four by 100- and 200-meter relay teams.
Josh Stanek had a third in the discus.
Shawn Morin finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, and Anthony Pearson was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Bishop Kelly ran away with the girls competition, scoring 108.67 points. Emmett was second with 87, Kuna next with 53, and Mountain Home scored 23.33 points on the day.
Mykel Barrie was Mountain Home's lone first-place finisher, winning the 100-meter hurdles.
Lauren Kisner finished third in the 100-meter dash, and fifth in the 400. She was also a member of the four by 100-meter relay team that finished third.
Erica Stanton finished second in the long jump, fifth in the triple jump, and was also a member of the four by 100-meter relay team.
Kacey Barrie was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, and also a member of the four by 100-meter relay team, along with Sidnei Banks.
Tiffany Robins placed third in the pole vault, and Piper Coffin was fifth in the high jump.
"We were happy with with our efforts. We continue to improve," said Tiger head track coach Rich Urquidi.
"Cory Bernaiche had a great meet. It was his first meet of the season, and he had three first-place finishes, so we were really happy to see that."
The Tiger thinclads will be at Vallivue tomorrow (Thursday) for a track meet.
