Tigers lose doublheader to Spartans
The Mountain Home Tigers lost a couple one-run non-conference baseball games at Minico Saturday, losing the first game 4-3, in 10 innings, and dropping the second, 6-5.
In game one, the Tigers trailed 3-2 in their last at bat in the seventh, but got to Spartan starter Brandon Colwell for back-to-back walks.
Michael Hinton then sacrificed the runners into scoring position, and an RBI ground-out David Wise plated the tying run.
Minico took advantage of a Mountain Home error to push across a run off Tiger reliever Jacob Dunn in the 10th for the winning run, as the Spartans won 4-3.
The Tigers had just three hits in the first game.
Bret Young had a home run, and David Wise and Jacob Dunn had the other hits.
In the second game, Mountain Home scored two runs in the third, and tied the game at 5-5, with three in the top of the fifth, but the Spartans pushed across a run in the bottom half of the inning that proved to be the game-winner, 6-5.
Andrew Grodi, the third of three Tiger pitchers in the game, suffered the loss, despite not giving up any earned runs in two innings of work.
Jacob Dunn had two hits and knocked in two runs in game two. Dillon Barresi had two hits, one of them a double, and drove in a run. David Pacheco had a hit and RBI, and David Wise and Michael Hinton also had hits.
"I thought we hung with them, and we certainly had our chances to win both ball games," said Tiger baseball coach Travis DeVore.
"Of course you want to win, but the main thing about our non-conference schedule is us getting better and ready for league play, and I think we're coming along. I'm looking forward to starting conference play. It's going to be a tough season for us, but we certainly have the talent to compete, if we can just execute."
The Tigers open SIC 4A conference this week at home. They hosted Kuna yesterday, and host the Caldwell Cougars on Friday. The Tigers are also at home Saturday for a non-conference doubleheader with the Jerome Tigers, first gamer starting at 11 a.m.
