Lady Tigers drop two
The visits to the Magic Valley turned out to be on the unpleasant side for the Mountain Home Lady Tigers last week as they dropped volleyball matches at Minico and Wood River.
Minico 25, 25
Mountain Home 15, 17
The Lady Tigers traveled to Minico last Tuesday for a tri-match, and lost to the host Lady Spartans 2-0.
For Mountain Home, Christa Stanton had two kills and a block against Minico, Shelby Wickmark had a kill and two blocks. Kim Gulley had one kill and one block, Tfffany Robins had one kill, and Rachelle Garland had four assists.
Burley 25, 25
Mountain Home 13, 8
The Lady Tigers also saw Burley on the Minico trip, and lost 2-0 to the Lady Bobcats. In that match, Christa Stanton had three kills and three blocks, Shelby Wickmark had a kill, Kim Gulley had a block, Paula Doerr had a block, and Rachelle Garland had three assists.
We had our moments when we looked good," said Mountain Home Lady Tiger volleyball coach Heather Cherry said of the Minico trip, "but for the most part they had a hard time getting used to the new defense."
Wood River 25, 25, 25
Mountain Home 4, 10, 19
Mountain Home traveled to Hailey on Thursday night to face Wood River in non-conference volleyball, and lost to the Lady Wolverines 3-0.
"They're a good team," said Coach Cherry, of Wood River. "They communicate so well and they're tall. They were fun to watch.
"They have some girls that get up in the air and hit the ball straight down, so our girls got to see that and we talked a little bit about that in ten-ns of defending the court when you see that happening, and we talked about looking at their defense and tipping around their hitters, because they blocked us really wen, even when we got the ban set up to hit it, they just put the ball right back down on the court, so they were really very good."
Last Saturday the Lady Tigers put on a volleyball-thon to raise money for the school's volleyball program. Freshmen through senior Lady Tiger volleyball players played volleyball from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Coach Cherry said it was a fun day that benefited their program.
"It was a fundraiser to raise some money for our volleyball program, so we can buy some equipment. Our junior high program needs new pads, and we need some balls at the ninth-grade level. We've got a couple nets that need to be replaced, so those kinds of things we don't have the funds for, so we did this as a fundraiser to help us do that. It went really well. Today was a great day."
The Lady Tigers opened SIC 4A conference volleyball last (Tuesday) night at home against Caldwell.
They host Jerome and Bishop Kelly tomorrow (Thursday) night, and go back to Wood River on Friday and Saturday for an invitational tournament.
