Homecoming week underway for MHHS
Homecoming week is underway at Mountain Home High School, with week-long events culminating Friday in the Homecoming Assembly, parade, game, and crowning of the homecoming queen at halftime.
Throughout the week Tiger teams are competing (see the sports pages for details), but there are two "special" sports events in the homecoming tradition -- Macho Man Volleyball and Powder Puff Football.
Monday night the junior and senior boys squared off in a charity volleyball event, that saw $140 and five cases of food raised for donation to the local food bank.
Tonight, Wednesday, is Powder Puff Football, where the junior and senior girls go after each other in a flag football contest that begins at 7:30 p.m. at Tiger Field. Members of the boys sports teams will serve as cheerleaders.
Throughout the week students are taking part in a variety of dress up days, all along musical themes.
Monday was "Rap Day" in which "they all got to dress up as their favorite rap star," Principal Barry Cahill said. "We'll probably not be doing that one again," he chuckled.
Tuesday was Disco Day "with polyester and all that stuff," Cahill said, and today, Wednesday is Country Western Day.
Thursday is Punk Rock Day. "I'm really looking forward to that," Cahill said a little dryly.
Friday is Tiger Day in which members of the student body dress up in the school's black and orange colors.
The Homecoming Assembly begins at 12:40 p.m. Friday, during which the king of homecoming will be announced.
The parade, which has grown considerably in recent years, will follow at about 1:30 p.m. The parade will leave the high school, turn onto 10th East Street, go down to Jackson Street, turn toward Second East Street, up that street to American Legion Boulevard and then turn back toward the high school on 14th East Street, finishing at Tiger Alley. Friday night's homecoming game will feature the crowning of the homecoming queen during halftime activities. The remainder of the court will be announced at the homecoming dance.
Queen candidates this year are Cali Crawford, Erin Hicks, Launa Ketterling and Chelsea Shields. King candidates are Josh Grimmett, Aaron Hofer, James Mazowieski and Tanner Wing.
