Guns and Hoses Softball game will have twice the meaning in its second year back

In 2018 the Masonic Lodge decided to bring back a long dead tradition between the Mountain Home Fire Department and local law enforcement. The Guns and Hoses softball game had not been played since the 90’s until the lodge decided to get involved and make it happen. Previously the game had been a yearly event with an afternoon of friendly competition between the first responders and all agencies involved were happy to get it going again...

Busily flitting here, there and everywhere, it would be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t ran into University of Idaho Extension Office Educator Brad Stokes while he is out and about working on one of his many projects. Stokes has spent the last couple of years working with Elmore County, the cities of Mountain Home and Glenns Ferry to bring awareness to the plight of pollinators and humanity’s dependence on them. ...

Community comes together for car wash fundraiser

On Saturday, Aug. 24, the Elmore County Sheriff’s office held a car wash at Mudslingers Coffee to help raise money for Sgt. Brian Fields who was recently injured in an off-duty motorcycle accident resulting in a loss of a limb. They received a total of $3, 854.80 and washed 167 vehicles. During the event Mudslingers also held a raffle and the staff donated all of their tips for the day. All proceeds from the event go to Brian and his family to help cover medical expenses...

Court: Idaho must give transgender inmate gender surgery

BOISE, Idaho (AP) _ Idaho must provide gender confirmation surgery to a transgender inmate living as a woman for years but who has continuously been housed in a men's prison, a federal appeals court said Friday. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed with a federal judge in Idaho that the state's denying the surgery for 31-year-old Adree Edmo amounted to cruel and unusual punishment, a violation of the Eighth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution...
