Mountain Home's interim fire chief Bud Corbus issued a simple message late last week for local residents who are tempted to shoot illegal fireworks to celebrate Independence Day. Don't do it. City's challenges highlighted at business convention

An effort to recruit new businesses and industries to Mountain Home yielded some success after two of the city's senior leaders returned from an international business convention held recently. Mayor Rich Sykes and city economic development director Paula Riggs were among the 37,000 people that attended the International Convention of Shopping Centers.....

UPDATE: Search for missing hiker scaled back

A search for a hiker that went missing in the mountains north of Mountain Home nearly a week ago was scaled back Thursday morning with some teams expected to continue their efforts on a more limited basis. Sheriff Rick Layher confirmed that the intensive parts of the search were called off after crews from several counties had conducted an extensive sweep through the Queen River area in northern Elmore County on Wednesday.
