Dear editor: Police are taught that there are three categories of people: "Yes people," "No people," and "Maybe people." These distinctions suggest the obvious -- that officers cannot talk everyone into handcuffs. "Yes people" are compliant to a uniformed police presence. "No people" are fighters, runners or both. "Maybe people" can go either way. It is the last category where there are the most variables effecting the direction of a police contact...

The Western Elmore County Recreation District formally launched its capital campaign last week to raise at least $850,000 for its proposed 23,000-square-foot community center that will become the site of a YMCA in Mountain Home.
