An emergency air quality monitor has been set up in Mountain Home to measure fine particulate matter (smoke) from wildfires, reports the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). The worst may be over as firefighters appear to be gaining an upper hand against the two major fires in Elmore County that have burned a total of more than 265,000 acres and destroyed 81 structures, including 38 residences.

Madison Lee Donahue, 1-month-old, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away on Aug. 13, 2013, at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, of complications from surgery. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Mountain Home. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home.
