This year the Bruneau Booster Club is "stepping it up" -- with little steps that is. The club plans to build a walking path for Bruneau Elementary and the community. Students of the elementary, parents, and community members alike will be able to use the path in lieu of walking, biking, skating or skateboarding on neighboring highways and in neighborhoods...

A "Medicaid Matters" community rally will be held Saturday, Feb. 19, at noon at Carl Miller Park. Those attending are being urged by organizers to "bring your friends and family and signs, letters and photos that tell our elected officials why Medicaid matters to you, your family, your business, your church, your neighbors and your Idaho."...

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 26 is sponsoring a Poppy Poster Contest. The contest will have seven classes for first through 12th grades, plus one for special needs students. Each poster should have a fitting slogan, not to exceed 10 words. The words "buddy" or "buy" cannot be used. The words "American Legion Auxiliary" must be used in the design...

Marcus Egusquiza of Mountain Home finished third in the Idaho State Finals of the Elks Hoop Shoot on Saturday in Kellogg. State Director Keith Mills said during the awards banquet that evening that it was the tightest he has ever seen it come down to with the boys in that age group...

Virginia R. Kast 92, of King Hill, died Thursday Feb. 17, 2011, at North Canyon Medical Center in Gooding. Memorial services will be announced at a later date. Idaho gas prices have risen 14 cents since February 2 -- to $3.10 a gallon on average. The Gem State's 10-week respite from fuel prices that had been well above the national average may be coming to an end. The U.S. average price is still higher, at $3.16, but its up just a nickel during the past two weeks...
