AFAD's golden anniversary set for Saturday

Air Force Appreciation Day, this Saturday, Sept. 11, will mark the 50th anniversary of the annual celebration of military personnel at Mountain Home Air Force Base. The theme this year is "50 Years of Patriotism" and the Chamber of Commerce, which sponsors the event, is urging the community to turn out in force to show its patriotic spirit and its support of the men and women assigned to the base, and in the nation's other military branches...

Hospital seeks to expand health care, cut costs

Elmore Medical Center expects to begin exploring soon possible "affiliations" with other health-care groups that would either expand services at the hospital or improve its efficiency in providing services. The hospital already is involved in several affiliations. It's had a management contract with St. Luke's since 2006 and is part of a consortium of health-care providers in the region to purchase supplies, the bulk purchases helping keep costs down...

Bicyclists have rights too!

Dear Editor: Regarding Ms. Wilson's letter on September 2, 2010, I believe that bicyclists have every right to the road as motorists do. There are laws for bicyclists in place by the state as well as by the city, and nowhere in there, does it state that bicycles are not allowed on the sidewalks. It does state however, that they are only prohibited if posted by a traffic control device (i.e. a sign)...

UPDATE: Steam engine to roll through town on Friday

One of Union Pacific Railroad's vintage steam locomotives is now expected to roll through Mountain Home on Friday and again later this month as part of a 15-day tour of cities across the Pacific Northwest.
