Mountain Home school registration begins Aug. 6

The start of school for the Mountain Home School District has been moved up by about two weeks from when it has started in recent years. School will begin on Aug. 17. The change will allow the district to conclude the first semester just before the Christmas break begins on Dec. 22. In the past, students went on break, then returned for about two weeks to complete the semester. They will return on Jan. 5 this year to begin the second semester...

Rimrock goes to four-day school week

The Bruneau-Grand View Schools will open for fall term with Rimrock Jr./Sr. High School starting Thursday, Aug. 19. Classes the first day will be conducted all day. Dear editor: I was so happy to see the return of the Elmore County Fair and Rodeo Royalty in conjunction with the Daniel Dopps Memorial Rodeo. Shannon Jones of Glenns Ferry needs to be commended for a job well done. As the queen coordinator she worked tirelessly to bring this competition back to our fair and rodeo. She drew competitors from all over the Southern Idaho as well as getting sponsors to provide prizes and advertising for competition...

Circus comes to Mountain Home

Miss Simone showcases her flexibility during a performance at the Culpepper & Merriweather Great Combined Circus on July 21. The circus stopped in Mountain Home that evening for a pair of performances. The Optimist Cheerleaders sponsored the traveling circus as part of the non-profit group's fundraiser.

FINAL UPDATE: No Idaho bases selected for F-35

Neither Mountain Home Air Force Base nor Gowen Field have been selected for the preferred alternative list for the F-35, the Air Force announced Thursday. Hill Air Force Base in Utah and the Air National Guard base in Burlington, Vt., were tapped as the preferred alternative for the first three operational F-35 squadrons.
