The Department of Veterans Affairs -- Boise VA Regional Office dedicated its new 25,000-square-foot office building Dec. 17 on the grounds of the Boise VA Medical Center campus. Special appearances for the dedication were made by VA Under-Secretary for Benefits, Patrick W. Dunne, and U.S. Sen. Larry Craig. As former Chairman of the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, Sen. Craig was instrumental in securing funding for the new Boise Regional Office building...

On a 3-2 vote, the city's planning and zoning commission recommended disapproving a proposal by the local Catholic community to build a new ministry building next to its existing church downtown. The proposal included remodeling the existing church at the corner of East Jackson and North 4th East streets and building an adjacent facility to give the church needed space for a fellowship area, administration offices and classrooms, along with more parking...

The Elmore County Sheriff's Office continued this week to investigate why a 38-year-old Mountain Home woman died from hypothermia after driving into the mountains east of town on New Year's Eve. Members of Elmore County Search and Rescue found the body of Suzanne "Susie" Blythe on Jan. 1 near the Tollgate intersection of Highway 20 and Immigrant Road about 12 miles east of town. She had apparently left her vehicle and froze to death during the night...

A couple from Mountain Home Air Force Base ushered in the new year with the birth of their daughter, becoming the first family in Elmore County to deliver a child in 2010. They beat a Mountain Home family by about 23 minutes for the honor of the first child born in the county...

The ninth-grade boy's basketball team kept sharp over the holidays playing two games against the Glenns Ferry Pilots' "C" team at Glenns Ferry. The young Tigers took both contests from the Pilots.
