Despite challenge, school board will seat Houston

The Mountain Home School Board plans on seating C.D. Houston at its July 21 regular monthly meeting, despite a challenge to Houston's May 19 election. Houston had initially been declared the winner of the school board post currently held by Jo Gridley, whose term ends July 21, but Houston had won by only three votes and a canvass of the votes revealed three votes had been cast by individuals who did not live in the current trustee zone for the election...

2009 Elmore County Fair opens next week

The Elmore County Fair will kick off next week, July 12-18, featuring the return of Paradise Amusements from last year and the return of the ICA/IMPRA rodeo to the same week as the fair. The fair is held at the fairgrounds in Glenns Ferry. Due to the economy, fair officials have decided to drop the $3 parking fee, charging only the $3 per person fee to enter the event...

Fire destroys car following crash (Local News ~ 07/08/09)
The driver of a Suzuki XK7 vehicle escaped serious injury when her car erupted in flames following a two-car accident at the intersection of Highway 30 and the frontage road near the Burger King last Thursday, July 2. According to the Elmore County Sheriff's Office, the Suzuki driver, a female from Horseshoe Bend whose name was not available by press time, was exiting the interstate onto Highway 30, when the male driver of a commercial F-150 Ford pickup for Dales Service, Inc., of Boise, apparently ran the stop sign on the side road in front of her. ... -
Wizard of Oz opens Friday (Local News ~ 07/08/09)
The youth summer theater production of "The Wizard of Oz," a non-musical version of the story by L. Frank Baum, will be presented at the Mountain Home High School gym July 10-11 at 7 p.m. and July 11 at 1 p.m. Adult tickets are $5 and $3 for students for the "Page Theatre" production of the classic story about Dorothy, Toto, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion. Dear editor: In regards to the proposed rezone from Ag to Heavy Industrial, if Elmore County needs another Heavy Industrial/Manufacturing zone, shouldn't the county commissioners, planning and zoning commission, and the citizens of Elmore County be selecting that site, not a potential developer?...

Water quality report doesn't really give much assurance

Dear editor: Those of us who pay water bills get ours this week. With it came the Water Quality Data Table. Of the 12 contaminants listed, the sample years range from 2004-2008; one quarter of them are from 2004. The powers behind the letter care so little for accuracy that the first sentence reads: "The table below lists all the drinking water contaminants that were detected during the calendar year of this report."...

MHHS will host football camp for eight-man teams

The Idaho Rally returns to Elmore County this year July 10-11. Forty-six rally cars from the US and Canada have already registered and for the first time motorcycles have been added to the mix.
