In unusually heavy voting for an off-year election Elmore County voters tended to favor incumbents and Republicans Tuesday. All returns were unofficial until the official canvass of ballots next week. Republican Marsa Grimmett soared past incumbent Democrat Merilee Hiler, who was appointed to fill the term of Gail Best (who retired earlier this year as county clerk), to win election for county clerk by a 3,043-2,430 margin...

The 366th Fighter Wing began the first phase of its F-16 drawdown when five jets from the 389th Fighter Squadron departed Mountain Home AFB for good around 8 a.m. Thursday. The departure is part of the wing's realignment from an F-16, F-15C and F-15E base to an all F-15E Strike Eagle installation by 2011...

The Mountain Home Lady Tigers open their girls basketball season this week, starting with a YEA Jamboree tonight against Buhl, Glenns Ferry and Rimrock. Mountain Home Lady Tiger head basketball coach Brian English indicated they had a great turnout for girls basketball at the high school...

Debra A. (Beckett) Hegre, 51, of Vancouver, Wash., formerly of Mountain Home, died at her home on Sunday, Nov. 5. Arrangements are pending at Summers Funeral Homes, Boise Chapel.

Robert Joseph Seguin, Jr., infant son of Robert and Amanda Seguin, died November 4, 2006, at a local hospital. Private family services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, McMurtrey Chapel. "Robert was loved and will be missed," his family said...

Muril Robert Hillman, 72, of Kingman, Ariz., formerly of Mountain Home, died Saturday, Oct. 21, 2006. A celebration of his life was held on Tuesday, Oct. 24, at his residence. Muril was born Sept. 14, 1934, in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Muril and Evelyn Hillman. He was raised in Yucca, Ariz., and as a young man he worked on area ranches as a cowboy...
