A large crowd watched from the north shore as a wagon and horses entered the swirling waters of the Snake River during the 21st Annual Three Island Crossing Reenactment last Saturday. It was a beautiful day for a Crossing. Cool temperatures with a breeze that tickled the surface of the river helped form the mood as one wagon and nine people astride horses, and one mule rider, started down the steep Oregon Trail to the river's south bank...

Marathon Cheese, one of the world's largest independent cheese packagers, is recruiting employees for its new Mountain Home plant. Company managers are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Supervisor, Electro-Mechanical Technicians, Machine Operators and Slice Machine Operators. Additionally, Marathon Cheese will be looking for a supervisor with a background in food production/packaging...

"That's the first time in my 12 years here that I've seen that," said Police Chief Tom Berry as he gazed out at the crowd gathered at city hall for this week's regularly-scheduled city council meeting. Lightning and high winds gusting above 60 mph last Thursday sparked a series of major fires in the area, including one that tore through the heart of the rural community of Tipanuk, completely destroying three homes and damaging two others. Last year's fire that threatened Tipanuk and forced its evacuation turned out to be just a dress rehearsal for the real thing last week...

At the coaches meeting last Thursday night, prior to Friday's start of the Northwest Regional Class A American Legion Baseball Tournament at Sheridan, Wyo., most of the coaches' concerns were hoping their team would be able to play after having a week off from winning their respective state tourneys...

Milan "Mike" Mouser died Aug. 11, 2006 after a 2 1/2-year battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death. Funeral services will be held at Ustick Baptist Church, 14301 W. McMillan Rd., Boise, on Friday, Aug. 18 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside services will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery. Ernst "Ernie" Jaeger, 84, of Mountain Home, died at a local care center on Aug. 10, 2006, of natural causes. Per his request, no services are planned.
