The Mountain Home School District will be notifying parents of students in the junior high and high school this week that the schools have failed a key standard of the No Child Left Behind Act. By failing to "make adequate progress," as defined by the law, the district is informing parents that they have the option to move their students to another higher-performing school in the district...

Students at the base's Primary and Liberty Elementary schools won't be starting classes tomorrow with everyone else -- as a result of a storm that damaged the Primary School last month. The Primary School students (grades K-3) will begin classes Monday in the Liberty building, and the students in grades 4-6 that were scheduled to attend Liberty will attend classes at what had been the mothballed Stephensen Middle School...

The Mountain Home School District is warning anyone attending events at Tiger Field and at Eastside Park, to be prepared to deal with "swarms" of mosquitoes. The high school football facility located adjacent to the junior high, and Eastside Park with its soccer fields, as well as the surrounding areas have become prime breeding grounds this year for mosquitoes...

Harriet Genevieve Carother, 93, formerly of Grand View, died July 17, 2004, in Caldwell. She requested that no formal service be held. Cremation arrangements were under direction of the Cremation Society of Idaho. She was born to Jess and Rita Hailey in Bellevue, Idaho, on Aug. 3, 1910. She spent the first ten years of her life at the Hailey ranch on Jordan Creek and started school at Flint Creek...

Martin Emanuel Litke, 91, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, at the Mountain Home Long-term Care Unit with his daughter, Ila, and grandson, Marty, by his side. Martin was born Jan. 22, 1913, at Council Grove, Kan. He was the last surving sibling of 15. Martin was raised in Kansas and in 1937 he moved to Grand View where he met his wife, Charlotte. They were married on April 9, 1938...

Margaret (Peggy) C. Beach, 84, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004. To honor her wishes, she was cremated and no funeral service will be held. Cremation was under the direction of Rost Funeral Home, Mountain Home. To reminisce and honor her there will be an open house for friends and family on Wednesday evening, Aug. 25, from 5-8 p.m. at the home of Martin and Moira Beach, 4250 N. 18th East St., in Mountain Home...

James Arthur Wright, 74, died Saturday morning, July 31, 2004, surrounded by his three children at the Idaho State Veterans Home in Boise. He died of complications from pneumonia. Jim had fought a long illness since 1995 of Guillain Barre Syndrome (a rare virus that attacks 2 in one million people)...

Philip Patrick "Pat" Rahn, 28, of Grand View, died Thursday, Aug. 19, 2004, in a car accident. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 23, at the Legion Hall in Grand View. A potluck dinner followed at the Senior Center in Grand View. Arrangements were under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel, in Mountain Home...

The Mountain Home Tigers open their 2004 football season at Wood River High School Friday night in a non-conference game against the Wolverines. The game marks the head coaching debut of Tiger coach Brian Floyd, who moves up from an assistant position last year...
