Joe McNeal outpolled incumbent Mayor Dave Jett by 51 votes in unofficial returns late Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough to avoid a runoff election, which will be held Tuesday, Dec. 2. McNeal received 760 votes to Jett's 709. But Carol Dalton, in her first try for public office, polled a respectably 422 votes, guaranteeing that neither McNeal nor Jett would have the simple majority needed to avoid a runoff election. ...

Ciccone prelim starts, then delayed

The preliminary hearing for Albert Ciccone, charged in the hit and run death of his pregnant wife, was continued until Nov. 19 at 10:30 a.m., after just two witnesses were called to the stand last Thursday. Mayor warns: Get ready for base closures

Members of the Chamber's Military Affairs Committee were urged last Wednesday to begin organizing for the next round of base closures, expected to begin within the next 18 months. Mayor Dave Jett, who along with Alan Bermensolo had just returned from a trip to Air Combat Command headquarters in Langley, Va., said the next round of base closures "is going to be a different animal" than the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRACC) closures of the early 1990s. ...
