Filly Update
Well, the filly has been moving right along. She's sweet and I can't wait to see where she goes. At 13 or so months, we can already see that she is quiet minded, and kid gentle. And of course, Jilly loves her a lot already. Could be she'll be in the Elmore County Fair next summer, but we shall see how it goes. This is one of the first days that Jilly handled her, and with the other horses looking on to make sure all goes well, she's doing a fine job
I do believe I see an attachment happening here
Marshmallow is making sure she is forgotten. Can't you just imagine her saying to Jilly, "Hey, don't forget me!"
She was just a bit too dirty for me when she first got here, so she had to have a bath. And though she'd never had one before, she took it like it was an every occurrence. I'm liking her more and more every day
Just playing around, Jilly and I decided that the filly should get acquainted with some of her future. She's looking at that saddle blanket as if to say "What is this happening here?"
This little saddle was Jilly's Daddy's saddle when he was her age.... and a bit younger too. * It has seen LOTS of things over the years...if it could talk what stories would it have to tell? * It was his first, then my daughters, and then my youngest son's. It has been loaned out to several children over the years, and now is used by Grandchildren and others too.
There was a day that I got a call just as I was leaving work, that all my horses were out. I thought, no big deal, they'll just stay around the haystack. I'm not sure which one of them had the bright idea that it would be cool to go way out in the desert, but someone took the lead, and off they went apparently. Well, I had Jilly, so we hopped into the truck and drove out close to where they were, and with a bucket of oats and a few halter, we were able to catch the adult equine culprits. I had not as yet had a halter on the filly, but I imagined that she wouldn't let herself get left out there, and would just follow us home. Jilly sat on the back of the flat bed of the pick up with the lead ropes of the so called "mature" horses to lead them from there. As you can see somewhat, from these photos, they are all feeling a bit silly and ready to go home.
This is the view I had from my rear view window. I had told Jilly to let go if need be, but that they most likely would come along with out any arguments. And they did. We were a bit of a spectacle coming down 18th street, but I'm sure we were entertaining.
And yes, the filly followed along because she had nothing better to do.
Beamer and Marshmallow, discussing who knows what.
This is going to be a flashy little filly though, for sure. She's stout and stocky, and ready to play!
I promised the lady who bought Beamer that I would take some photos for her, of him...so he is performing for me, to show himself off
