Shoshone County Fair
Yep, we are gluttons for Fairgoing. We had a bit of a stake in this Fair also. A good friend of ours has a daughter who competes in Shoshone, and we had helped her a bit, and she is using my English Saddle and Stuff. She/Christine, has requested a promise from us that we would go and watch her 'Go" Promise given, so here we are
Christine is a ranch girl also, and rides more than adequately. With just a few tips on showing and more encouragement, she had a great day! I believe she came out of the Horse Show with the Overall Grand Champion
Again, as is customary, Halter/Showmanship is first thing in the morning. I'm amazed at me (cuz I'm lazy in the morning) that I made it to Shoshone in time for this!
Getting ready with help from Grandma and a friend for her very first ever English Class
I'm always nervous before the first class on a show day, and I can only imagine the nerves she's got jangling around inside, before the first class of English EVER
It was AWESOME! I was so happy for her! That is her Mom in green too, happily watching, though honestly, I hadn't realized that til JUST now looking closer at this photo
She did an amazing job, and I believe next year, we'll have her jumping too. Any wagers on that?
I did not realize it at the time I took the photos, but the 2 following photos are of a daughter of a very good friend of mine from High School. In High school, my friend wasn't interested in horses, but apparently, she's another that had a daughter who got the 'bug' I was happy to see this!
When a kid/man/woman spends as much time in the saddle as someone like Christina does, doing other things, kind of comes naturally. Her balance and understanding of her horse after working for hours in the saddle, was her best asset. I almost feel as if it was a 'given' that she'd do so well. Others who have horses for a hobby, most of the time just don't spend enough hours in the saddle to compete against someone like her. She might ride in one day the hours that the others do in a month. It's sad but true. For her, sitting a certain way is a no brainer. She's relaxed and aware without having to concentrate. Don't get me wrong, not every Ranch kid is like that. I know lots that ride lots of hours, and can't do it like she can. And many don't look like they have ridden long. Christina's Mom and Dad take pride in what they do, and spend a lot of time with their daughter. It shows in so many aspects in this photo
We talk lots and lots of safe seat. * Legs/hands, eyes, .... well, here it is, learned from her folks.
Her reining pattern
This county has a few different obstacles than ours. I liked it. They rope during theirs too on a dummy.
We left shortly after this, happy that we'd fulfilled our promise to her. We'll be back next year I imagine
