4-H is underway
A local group put on a clinic a few weeks ago. Jeff Spencer came and did a short clinic, on how to 'start a colt' This year, there are a few kids who are starting their own horses, and were looking for some tips. Jeff lives in Emmet now, but is a local man, with family right here in Mountain Home. My daughter used to work for Jeff, riding colts.
This is the horse that is being 'started' by a young 4-H member.
This is not the kid that owns the horse, but he's going to give it it's first ride. He is the son of a local horsewoman, and has literally ridden all his life.
Getting the horse used to all kinds of things. Similar to photos I showed from the Legacy of Legends.
And he's up! No big deal, right? Great job. But seriously, if you've never done this, don't try it alone.
This is the above young boy's sister, and she too has been riding all her life. She has already put a few rides on this horse, and is doing a great job.
I told Jilly to go introduce herself to Jeff, and tell her that she is the niece of Katie, who was Jeff's adopted daughter. I love this photo.
Jeff Spencer came and did this little clinic voluntarily, for no charge, THAT is what 4-H is all about. If YOU have some free time, and would love to help children, with any project, there is a project to fit that! Call and do it...they'll appreciate it.
Every year, the great volunteers of 4-H Get together and do what we call a "Pre-Fair Clinic" It is to show the kids what they should be preparing for, and mostly to show first year kids a bit of what it will be like.
Thanks to everyone that came! It was cold and pretty bitter, but there were plenty of smiles all around.
