I am interested in this Community, County, and the beautiful state of Idaho. Most of my photos will be in Idaho, but from time to time, they will be my vacations aay from Idaho. You'll see lots of my Children and Grand children, along with others in my family. Of course there will be horses and horse related things, and things I photo'd horseback.

A Legacy of Legends, Day 3

Day 3 is Sunday, and yes, some think we are Heathens, but we respect a Sunday Worship. Wade Black, who I've said, Trains for the Cross, gives our Sunday Prayer. He talks about his life, and some of what he's been thru. He loves what he does, and loves to share it. His Grandpa, Ray Hunt and his father, Martin, are big influences in his, but he's proud to say, that he lives for God. He talks to God, like he's talking to a friend, and loves the idea of sharing such a friend with everyone. It's something to be proud of.

Reata's 3rd Day

yep, Reata is ready to head out into the big world!

One of the biggest mistakes that people make, is not to end on a good note. If you get to a point that "feels good to you", trust me, it "feels good to the horse" too. Stop, Get off, and be done. Let them 'sleep on it' But the thing so many do, is "Oh gosh! That was awesome! Let's do it 40 more times!" how is that horse going to feel then? Think he wants to do it any more? Nope, he's likely going to start looking for a way out. So, Reata gets off, at a good place, and the Colt realizes "Hey, all I have to do is..... and I get to be done. I can do that!"

Does this horse look traumatized? In case you're wondering, the answer is an emphatic "NO"!

Buckshot, Your grandfather did what most everyone did. It was just "the way" I grew up doing it that way, on the ranch I spent my time. Or actually, watching the cowboys do it. It was when I got 'out on my own' that I realized that I was more likely going to get hurt. And I did get hurt, and have some bad spills. I started looking for 'another way'. "There's gotta be another way!" I was thinking! And off the ranch, with personal horses of my own, I came to see them differently, as friends, and loyal companions. I didn't want it to be like that for them. Eventually, after time and quite alot of money spent on going to clinics of one kind or another, I found it. (and Wayne) I also found some fruit loops doing ridiculous things, and learned just about as much about what I despised, as what I liked. But that was good too.

I look back and think, "Oh man, if I had that horse now, I could do it so much better!" But I think that about everything....

Anyone who is serious about their horsemanship, should read books by Tom and or Bill Dorrance, Ray Hunt, Buck Brannaman. Read them over and over again, and watch their videos. I have all Ray's videos, and several of Bucks and others. We watch them, and I see something new every time...or it sinks in more. And I can't imagine how many times I've watched them.

I went on a bit, ...but the point is, don't worry about your Grandfather, he'd do it differently now too!
