Monday Evening-Western Classes
Western is held on Monday evening. We used to take 2 days to complete the show. Back in the days when my kids were in 4-H, there were over 100 4-H members attending the show. It has had a steady decline over the last 10 years or so. I am happy to say that this year has shown an increase.
I have said it before, I can't figure out why more kids don't participate. I have spoken to lots of kids that would like to, but have a hard time getting to the meetings for practices and such. Horse 4-H costs about 20$ per year, but it is a pretty hands on activity. It seems there aren't alot of parents who have the time to be that hands on. I am hoping that this coming year will show another increase. There are a ton of fun activities, and sooo many great instructors giving hours of assistance.
Bring your kids and/or grand kids!
Above: This is "Planet" a mare of mine. She is 15, and I imagine she feels she has done her "time" at the Fair with my kids. She is showing what she thinks about it!
It does get very hot. We make sure the kids stay as hydrated as possible.
Above with broken leg is my friend Sharon: She took a spill horseback almost 2 months ago, but it does keep her from doing her share at the fair. I met her about 15 years ago, when her daughter, Ginny, was 10. Ginny was in my 4-H club til she graduated High School. I am best friends with pretty much all the Moms I met that way. I just keep them for always.
Sharon is sitting with our Working Ranch Horse leader, Paula. Paula puts in endless hours to make the kids have the experience of the old ways with horses.
Above is Wendy. (who apparently doesn't love that I"m taking her picture) She is Allisyn's Mom, and my new friend for life. I'll be writing about her in 10 years while she helps at the Fair in 2020. Bet me.
Kids waiting their turn .....
This little Kill Deer was NOT happy that we were having our show so near her next. She is giving me dirty looks and trying to look very fierce. ME? I take a picture.
Shannon is another many year friend. She was finishing up her 4-H career, while my kids were in full swing. She now has a daughter, (below:black & white paint) who is showing traditionally. Shannon and I share a birth date, (tho separated by 10 years) and a ton of memories. Shannon is sitting by her Mom, Arlene, who was/is a dedicated 4-H Mom/supporter. (As was her Mom, Glenna)
Wayne gives "Hi 5's"
I have thought of a new blog. I am going to put up some pics of kids that are kids of previous 4-H members. If you are one, send me your pics!
