While One Turns 75, Another is just One
Last Sunday we celebrated our newest member of the family's Birthday. My Oldest Son's son turned the big ONE. Naturally we all had to get together to celebrate this! We're partiers, remember?
Bryce is the 2nd of 2 somewhat "Miracle Children" as far as I'm concerned. He is the son of Evan and Jessie Miller. (Remember I've mentioned that my son married another Jessie Miller) Jess was extremely ill as a young girl with Cancer. She is in herself a "Miracle Child" Years ago she nearly lost the battle with cancer, but she's an extremely strong person, so she fought the war and is still with us today. And healthy. God speaks in many ways, and this was one of them. One downside of her disease was that she would never be able to bear children.
Jess joined our family 4 years ago, actually almost to this day, now that I think of it. Jess's Mom was the instigator as she had met my son and thought he should meet her daughter. That in itself makes me proud of my son. Now, Evan is a quiet man, who I would have thought was just being polite taking Jess's phone # from her Mom. If I had known, I would have thought "He won't call" since he's kind of shy and quiet. BUT He did call.... and they went out that night. Seems to me like it was the evening before Thanksgiving 4 years ago.
The rest as they say is history. She makes him happy, and he loves her dearly. Jess already had her 1st Miracle Child, Jillian, who will be 5 in April. Evan instantly loved that little girl, and couldn't love her any more if they had known one another from her birth. He has since legally adopted her. She has no choice but to grow up a little tomboy, and she will have an incredible life.
Evan and Jess got married 2 years ago in September. Evan was so happy to have it done and go on with his life, working and loving his little family. They wanted to have a baby, but to be honest, I was afraid for them, and the disappointment that they might have to face. But they became pregnant not long after they began trying. Difficulties came....and they lost the baby. Both were of course devastated (as we all were).... but were determined to try again. Along came
Bryce in the pregnancy.
Bryce's 1st picture
I think I held my breath for 9 months. Success came a year ago on November 14, 2008. Jess honored me by letting me be in the room when Bryce entered this world into the loving arms of his Mom and Dad.
Moments after he is born
I can't tell you how this kind of event can humble you.
I am touching him for the first time
3 Generations of men in my life
Bryce is the spitting image of Evan at that age. He's round and chubby and unceasingly happy. His face lights up at the drop of a hat or toy as it might be. I can't wait to tell him things about his Daddy! In his family of Evan, Jess and big sister Jillian, he will grow up to be big and strong...
a Miracle Child indeed.
