Dec. 22: Babysitting bus rides
I'm exhausted. I just got off a 14-hour bus ride from Cuzco to Nazca.
I didn't get much sleep at all on the bus last night because the guy in the seat in front of me reclined over most of my legs and I was unable to get comfortable. I'm not saying I mind if someone sleeps on half of me, I'd just like to have some say in who it is.
Now I'm waiting at the Nazca airport to check out the Nazca lines left on the ground from the sky. After this I am going to Pisco, where a hostel awaits me for some much needed sleep.
I ran into three of the American college students I met the other day at the bus station. When it came time to board, I discovered I would be sitting next to one of them, Charles, who is from Boston.
Being on a night bus feels a lot like being baby sat. Someone decides when you eat dinner, what movies you watch and what time you go to bed. When the bus attendant didn't show another movie last night, it felt like we were being tucked in for the night.
Charles and I stayed up talking until after midnight like two girls at a sleep over.
