‘Wheeee!’
Zoe Thomas helps her daughter, Lillyann, master the monkey bars on the playground equipment located in the center of Richard Aguirre Park as they took time to enjoy the day last month. Families visiting the park remained limited to one playground as work continues to replace aging equipment located at the second playground at the corner of North 5th East and McKenna Drive. The newly reopened playground features a merry go round along with swings with seat areas that allow children confined to a wheelchair to play along with additional seats that feature seat harnesses to accommodate others with mobility handicaps, which comply with the Americans With Disabilities, or ADA Act. In addition, maintenance crews replaced the playground surface with bonded mulch to strengthen the playground surface.
